I could’ve just called his assistant to handle this, but seeing You Yan kneeling there, shaking with pain, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him.
“Where’s the suppressant?”
When he didn’t respond, I wondered if he’d passed out. Finally, I heard a weak answer.
“Corner cabinet in the living room… second drawer…”
I struggled to get him dried off and back in bed. Not knowing how much an alpha needed, I gave him a standard dose.
It worked fast—his breathing steadied, though he still looked uncomfortable.
I’d never taken care of an alpha during their susceptibility period, so I called my sister.
“Release pheromones to soothe him.”
“…What if there’s only a beta around?”
“Then just use your body.”
I was stunned. My sweet, innocent sister—how could she say something so crude?
Before I could protest, someone else took the phone.
“Sen, you’re talking about You Yan, right?”
Of course. She’d been corrupted by her partner.
I grunted, tempted to hang up.
“If it’s You Yan, he should be hospitalized. He’s never had a partner and relies on suppressants—he’s probably built up a resistance.”
I glanced at You Yan—he was watching me, eyelashes still wet, looking fragile and lost.
Maybe I’d misjudged him.
If he’d wanted to force me, I wouldn’t have been able to stop him.
I tried calling his assistant, but no one picked up. I didn’t know which hospital he usually went to, and You Yan wasn’t answering my questions.
I could just leave… but what if he lost control and hurt some innocent omega?
Suddenly, I felt a warm touch on my ribs. I looked down—You Yan was gently tracing the scar there.
My shirt clung to me, soaked through, so I just took it off. The scar was ugly and obvious.
After a long silence, You Yan spoke. “I was there that year too.”
I froze.
The year Liang Xing’s pheromones caused a riot, I was just a student. I tried to shield her from the alphas, but I was powerless.
One enraged alpha kicked me so hard he broke three of my ribs, the bones piercing my skin.
It was a remote street, but the police arrived surprisingly fast—no, not fast, just in time. Any later, and things would’ve ended badly for me and Liang Xing.
I was nearly unconscious from blood loss. I barely remember the details, just the despair and fear.
Was I now protecting someone who’d once been one of those attackers?
A surge of hatred made my voice tremble. “You mean… you were one of them?”
You Yan was stunned, then shook his head.
“I had my driver and bodyguard pretend to be police to scare them off. When we took you to the hospital, you were already unconscious.”
I hadn’t expected that at all.
I was so shocked I forgot to hide my reaction.
Seeing my silence, You Yan hurried to explain. “I don’t expect gratitude or anything.”
I couldn’t process anything he was saying. My mind was a mess. I pushed him away and stood up.
“Let’s go to the hospital. You need to see a doctor.”
